When people split up, the home Wi-Fi network is often the one thing nobody thinks to change. A former partner who still knows the Wi-Fi password, the router login, or the account behind a smart camera may still have a way into your home. Cameras, microphones, and other small devices can quietly connect to that network and send video, audio, or location data back to someone outside the house.
San Francisco & Bay Area Investigations can sweep your network for devices that should not be there, reset it so only you control it, and upgrade it to newer, faster equipment when that makes sense.
Signs Your Network May Not Be Yours Alone
- Someone seems to know about conversations or events that happened inside your home.
- Devices you do not recognize appear in your router app or on your network.
- Smart cameras, doorbells, speakers, or thermostats were set up by a former partner and are still tied to their account.
- You never changed the Wi-Fi password, router password, or internet account after the breakup.
- Settings on the router, cameras, or smart home devices change without your input.
What We Do
Sweep the Network
We identify every device connected to your network, including wired and wireless connections, and determine what each one is. Unknown cameras, microphones, smart plugs, and other hidden devices are located and documented.
Reset and Secure It
We help you take back control: new Wi-Fi name and password, new router administrator password, updated firmware, remote management turned off, and a review of the internet provider, router, and smart home accounts tied to your home. Shared cloud accounts for cameras and doorbells are a common blind spot, so we check those too.
Upgrade to Newer Technology
Older routers often lack current security updates. When it makes sense, we help you move to newer, faster equipment such as a modern Wi-Fi 6, 6E, or 7 router or mesh system, set up securely from day one, with a separate guest network for visitors and smart devices.
Check Beyond the Wi-Fi
Not every device uses your Wi-Fi. Some trackers and listening devices use a cellular connection or Bluetooth instead. Our full bug sweep (TSCM) covers rooms, vehicles, phones, and computers so nothing is missed.
Before You Reset Anything
If you plan to take legal action, talk with us first. Resetting a router or removing a device can erase evidence that matters in a family law or restraining order case. We document what we find, preserve it properly, and can work with your attorney.
California law generally prohibits recording a confidential conversation without the consent of all parties (Penal Code section 632). If someone is recording you without your consent, that evidence may matter.
If you believe you are in danger, call 911. If you think someone is monitoring you, contact us from a phone and network you trust.
